Officials and residents of Kandahar province said on Tuesday that a house in Kandahar city that belongs to Ahmad Shah Durrani, founder of Afghanistan, is collapsing and needs to be rebuilt.

Eight months ago people in Kandahar city handed-over a house to Kandahar municipality and said that the home belongs to Ahmad Shah Durrani, former Afghan emperor.

Concerned about the state of the home, officials of the information and culture directorate of Kandahar urged the central government to rebuild the house.

“We are concerned about all historical sites that need to be rebuilt. We urged the government to rebuild the historical places in a timely manner,” said Hakmatullah Afghan, head of Kandahar's information and cultural directorate.

Kandahar municipality said that the house is under their control, but there is no budget allocated for its rebuilding.

“The house is under the control of the municipality and the municipality takes care of it. Two guards keep the house and our technical team monitors the house,” said Mohammad Haneef, an engineer in the municipality.

Some residents of the province urged the government to rebuild the house and preserve the legacy of Ahmad Shah Durrani.

“The house is falling into ruins day by day. Presidents pledged that they will rebuild the house, but none have followed through on these commitments,” said Juma Gull, a resident of Kandahar.

“No one thinks about the house. Some people try to rob from the house. The officials are careless about the home,” said Ishaqzai, another resident of Kandahar.

According to official records, the house was built 300 years ago.
