The work on three major water dams has resumed and will be finished soon, the Ministry of Energy and Water (MoEW) said on Saturday.  

The dams are Shah-Aros, Kajaki and Kamal Khan.   

According to the MoEW, 80 percent of construction on Kajaki dam—located in the southern province of Helmand-- has been completed and the rest of the construction will be finished within the next two months.  

“Work on Kajaki dam is 80% complete. The turbines are being installed and its construction will be finished within two months,” said Akhtar Mohammad Nasrat, a spokesman for the MoE.  

Meanwhile, the farmers in the south of Afghanistan, said they are facing a shortage of water to irrigate their fields.  

“We are suffering from a shortage of water, otherwise we have good agriculture products,” said Mohammad Gul, a farmer.  

“The water canals must be constructed, and water dams must be repaired so we can irrigate with the canals,” said Faiz Mohammad, a farmer. 

To control flooding and manage irrigation, the MoEW said it will build large and small dams in several provinces.  

The Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock also pledged to implement plans to overcome the water problems in the country.  

“We have conducted our survey in Kandahar, and we have fixed some dams to provide irrigation facilities for the farmers,” said Sadrazam, deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock.
