Kabul Airport Customs Office Says Imports Will Increase

The customs office at the Kabul airport said that with the recent signing of the contract of the ground handling operation of the Kabul airport with the UAE’s GAAC company, the import of commodities will increase.

According to the statistics of the customs office, it has received more than 430 million Afs in revenue over the past eight months.

“As the contract has been signed, the import of commodities will increase. The only problem now is the decreased number of flights,” said Abdul Manan Mukhlis, head of the customs office at Kabul airport.

The association of traders said that the volume of imports increased due the facilitation of transit for Afghan commodities in the UAE.

“There is no large number of flights which were being conducted in the past. We call on the Islamic Emirate to strengthen ties with the other world,” said Asadullah Aka, head of the association.

Safiullah Alokozai, an Afghan trader who imports electronic devices through Kabul airport, said that he is pleased with the new facilities in the customs office of the airport.

“Before, the procedures at the customs office were taking from one to two days but it is wrapped up now within an hour,” he said.

The deputy of the Kabul airport custom office, Ahmad Zia Masoumi, said that a center to provide facilities for international traders has been established.

“We have created a center for international traders and organizations to make the procedure quick,” he said.

The Ministry of Finance said that Afghanistan mainly relies on customs offices to receive revenue.

According to the estimate of the ministry, the revenue of the government from customs will reach to more than 187 billion Afs by the end of the 1401 solar year.
