China Vows to Help Afghanistan’s Economy

The Chinese ambassador in Kabul, Wang Yu, vowed that his country will help Afghanistan in economic areas.

Talking at an earthquake aid ceremony, Yu was critical of the US for freezing the Afghan assets and imposing economic sanctions on Afghanistan.

“After their withdrawal, the US has ignored the livelihood and plight of the Afghan people… and has frozen Afghan assets abroad,” he said.

“China is willing to hold high the banner of proceeding peace and promoting negotiations on issues of Afghanistan as well providing more development support in various fields for Afghanistan,” he added.

Speaking at the same ceremony, the acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum, Shohabuddin Delawar, said that the Islamic Emirate is considering major economic and development projects to solve current problems.

Referring to the Amu Darya River oil deposits project, he said that $150 million will be invested and Afghanistan will invest 20%. He said the crude oil will be refined inside Afghanistan to provide oil for Afghan markets and for export.

“There is one positive change in the contract which is that Afghanistan would be contributing 20 percent of the project independently,” he said.

Meanwhile, the state minister for Disaster Management, Sharafuddin Muslim, said that people who are affected by the recent earthquake need shelters.

"The winter is around the corner, and the people are living in tents. The leader of the Islamic Emirate decided to make shelters for them,” he said.

After a devastating earthquake in southeastern Afghanistan that left scores of people killed and wounded as well as thousands of residences destroyed, many world countries and aid organizations provided aid to the earthquake affected people.
