Work on Tori Dam has started in Zabul province and this dam cost 97 million Afghani and will be finished within the next six months, said officials.

The Ministry of Energy and Water said this dam will irrigate 600 acres of land and it will also have the capacity to produce 100 kilowatts of electricity. 

“We don’t want to wait for the international community, we have to use our own natural sources,” said Mullah Abdul Latif Mansoor, acting Minister of Water and Energy. 

This dam will be built with the budget of the national development company, and according to officials of the Water and Energy Ministry, after this project the implementation of large projects will be entrusted to domestic companies. 

“Work on designing dams is not expensive and is not with foreign companies anymore, Alhamdulillah, the leadership of the Islamic Emirate was able to design this dam with its professional staff.” Said Mawlawi Mujeeb Rahman Omar, the Deputy Ministry of Energy and Water.

“The engineer on this project is Afghan and he designed it and the money is also from Afghans,” said Mawlawi Abdulwali Adil.  

Residents of Zabul welcomed the work on the dam and asked for more dams in this province. 

“This dam is really useful for residents of this province,” said Hayatullah Jahani. 

The Tori Dam has a storage capacity of nearly three million cubic meters of water and can prevent floods to a certain extent, said officials.
