Air Corridor Between Delhi and Kabul to Resume Soon: MoCI

An agreement was signed between Kabul and Delhi to boost bilateral trade, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) said, adding that the air corridor between Afghanistan and India will be resumed soon.

“A new deal was recently signed with India to continue our export to India via air corridor. Our export will, inshallah, be continued to India via different ways,” said Akhundzada Abdul Salam, a spokesman for the MoCI.

This comes as Afghan traders expressed frustration and said that they are facing severe challenges with exports via Wagga port.

The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) said that the export of  the asafoetida plant, saffron and dry fruits will be conducted through the air corridor.

“We need to export some of the commodities via air corridor. However, we currently export pine nuts to India and UAE through an air corridor,” said Mohammad Younus Momand, head of the ACCI.

The Afghan traders called India a good market for Afghan exports.

“Over the past several years, it has been proven that India has been the major market for Afghan products, particularly dry fruits,” said Mahbobullah Mohammadi, a trader.

Based on the statistics of the MoCI, more than 30 million Afghan commodities were exported to India in the first six months of 1401 (solar year). Afghanistan made 14 billion Afs in revenue during this period.
