Afghanistan Exports At Least 5,000 Tons of Pine Nuts

The Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MoIC) on Wednesday said that Afghanistan has exported at least 5,000 tons of pine nuts worth $53 million in the past nine months.

The ministry said that most of the pine nuts were sent to China through the air corridor.

“At least 2200 tons of pine nuts have been exported to China and 700 tons of pine nuts were exported through the air corridor,” said Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, a spokesman for the ministry.

Investors said that the country’s pine nuts are one of the most demanded products in the world markets and that the resumption of the air corridor helped the exports to increase.

“Pine nuts are the biggest export materials for our country and the most demanded products in the world markets,” said Mahbubullah Mohammadi, an investor.

Analysts said that Afghanistan can have more income through increased pine nuts exports to world markets.

“We will have more income if we have exports directly from Afghanistan to other countries,” said Azrakhsh Hafizi, an analyst.

Figures from the pine nuts producer union show that Afghanistan produces at least 10,000 tons of pine nuts every year, most of which are produced in Khost and Paktia provinces.
