PM's Office Discusses Second Sarobi Dam and Jawzjan Gas Power Projects

The Economic Commission of the Prime Minister's Office in a meeting discussed the construction of the second Sarobi Dam in Kabul province and the production of 300 megawatts of gas-powered electricity in Jawzjan province.

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, deputy prime minister for economic affairs, has instructed the Ministry of Energy and Water to conduct technical discussions with various companies regarding the construction of the second Sarobi Dam in Kabul.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Energy and Water said that the second Sarobi Dam project in Kabul is one of the ministry's work priorities.

According to the Ministry of Energy and Water, the construction of the second Sarobi Dam will be carried out in two phases, with an estimated cost of about $300 million dollars.

Matiullah Abid, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Water and Energy, told TOLOnews: "This project will be built in two phases, with a production capacity of 111 megawatts in the first phase, and a total cost of about $300 million dollars."

Meanwhile, Amanullah Ghalib, former head of Breshna company, said the construction of the second Sarobi Dam in Kabul is important for water management and energy production in the country.

He said: "Water is circulated in the first and second Sarobi dams and then returns to the turbines. When there is less water, production decreases, with a capacity estimated at 108 megawatts, but if there is more water, it can produce up to 140 and 160 megawatts of electricity."

The Chamber of Commerce and Investment and some experts consider investment in energy production in the country important for achieving self-sufficiency in the energy sector.

Khan Jan Alokozay, a member of the ACCI’s board of directors, said: "Investment in the energy sector is very important for us. Whether it is water, coal, or wind, it is an urgent need, not only for the people but also for production."

According to information from the Breshna Company, the energy produced from the Sarobi and Mahipar dams in Kabul is mostly consumed in the green areas and hospitals of the capital.
