Kabul Residents: Prices Should Decrease Along with Tax Reductions

A number of capital residents, welcoming the reduction of taxes on gas stations, hotels, and restaurants, are also urging officials to focus on lowering prices.

They told TOLOnews that tax reductions can help boost household economies, but if prices do not decrease, the positive effects will be diminished.

"Reducing taxes on hotels and gas stations is a good step. They should also reduce the prices of food and goods so that people can benefit from everything," said Tariqullah, a resident of Kabul.

"This is a good step. When they reduce taxes, we want them to also focus on making prices reasonable," a Kabul city driver told TOLOnews.

Tax collection plays an important role in funding regular and developmental budgets. However, officials in the caretaker government have always emphasized that in order to bring convenience to the citizens of the country, they have reduced taxes in various sectors.

Meanwhile, some economic experts said that the collected taxes should be spent on infrastructure projects to create job opportunities for the citizens of the country.

"I think the taxes collected by the government should be spent on development projects," Taj Mohammad Talash, an economic expert, told TOLOnews.

"One of the important sources for the government is tax collection. Of course, to a necessary extent, it is good that taxes are collected, as it increases revenues, but it should not be burdensome," said Abdul Zuhoor Modaber, another economic expert.

According to the Ministry of Finance, in the last three years, taxes on the private sector, businesses, companies, schools, oil and gas stations, hotels, restaurants, and educational and health institutions have been reduced.
