Following the recent SIGAR report on aid to Afghanistan and Afghan refugees, Fox News has recently reported that US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has been asked to halt US aid to Afghanistan.
According to the Fox News report, a US Senator Mike Braun, in a letter to the Secretary of State, requested an investigation into how aid is being delivered to Afghanistan.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Economy has once again rejected reports of the Islamic Emirate's involvement in global aid to Afghanistan, stating that stopping aid in the current situation would be detrimental to Afghan citizens.
Abdul Latif Nazari, the Deputy Minister of Economy, said: "The Islamic Emirate engages in no interference in international aid, and this aid is given to deserving and needy people. We strongly reject any report calling for a halt to aid to the people of Afghanistan, as it is an injustice to the Afghan people."
Hamdullah Fitrat, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Islamic Emirate, also said: "I must clarify that the Islamic Emirate has not received any global aid, and the Islamic Emirate does not rely on financial assistance from the world."
At the same time, some economic experts believe that continuing humanitarian aid is crucial for improving and developing Afghanistan's economy in the current situation.
"If aid is stopped, in my opinion, it would be an injustice to the people of Afghanistan, because the people are very poor and depend on aid," said Abdul Shakoor Hedayatwal, an economic analyst.
"In the past three years, aid has helped stabilize the Afghan currency and has supported exports and imports. If aid is halted, the Afghan currency will become unstable," said Mohammad Nabi Afghan, another economic analyst.
This comes after the recent report by the US Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) indicated that from August 2021 to date, the United States has allocated approximately $20.7 billion for Afghans and Afghan refugees, of which $2.9 billion constitutes humanitarian and development aid.
