The Central Bank of Afghanistan reported that the value of the national currency has increased by 2.24 afghani against foreign currencies in the past month. On Wednesday, the exchange rate was 68.40 afghani for one US dollar.
The bank attributes this rise in the afghani’s value to the implementation of better monetary policies, the prevention of dollar smuggling, increased exports, and the use of the afghani in currency markets.
Haseebullah Noori, the spokesperson for the Central Bank, stated: "Our recent data shows that in the past month, the value of the afghani has increased by 2.24 afghani against the dollar, which is a significant achievement for the Central Bank."
However, some residents of the capital say that despite the increase in afghani value, the price of foodstuffs have not decreased.
Jamshid Ahmadzai, a resident of Kabul, said: "We observe that the dollar’s value has decreased, but prices have not changed. We urge traders to make efforts in this regard."
Javid, a resident of Kabul, said: "Prices in the markets are very high, transactions are conducted in dollars, but there has been no change in prices."
Meanwhile, several economic experts say that the increase in the afghani value against foreign currencies plays an important role in the country’s economic growth and development.
Mohammad Nabi Afghan, an economic expert, said: "The positive point is that the government should work on maintaining the afghani’s stability, which also impacts trade."
Statistics from the Central Bank of Afghanistan indicate that in the first six months of the current solar year, the value of the afghani has increased by three percent against other currencies.
