Presidential candidate and former head of the Afghan intelligence agency, Rahmatullah Nabil, in an open letter to his former veteran colleague, Amrullah Saleh, has invited Mr. Saleh to join his team in the upcoming presidential poll.

In his letter, Mr. Nabil has rediverted Mr. Saleh’s attention to his previous criticisms against President Ashraf Ghani and has said that Mr. Saleh’s presence in his campaign will help them to resolve a big part of issues facing Afghanistan.

The two staunch anti-terror veterans, who served as chief of the National Directorate of Security, have had similar positions on some issues of national importance, especially in the fight against the Taliban and dealing with Pakistan.

“Join the patriotic majority campaign before your patriotic voice is suffocated in the virtual sludge of the ruling campaign forever,” Mr. Nabil, who leads Security and Justice campaign team, writes in his letter to Mr. Saleh.

Mr. Nabil, who describes Mr. Saleh a security specialist, says in the letter that casualties and security threats have significantly increased because of unprofessional people within the government.

He writes that Ghani’s First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum has been banned to participate in the cabinet and National Security Council meetings.

“And if you are not exiled like him, you will witness, with your conscience, the disintegration of people and the division of people into separate ethnicities and geographies,” he wrote.

Mr. Nabil has asked Mr. Saleh not to “destroy his credibility and dignity for a certain group” which he says is “a blind and a treacherous minority” and to join them in resolving Afghanistan’s problems.

Mr. Saleh is running as President Ghani’s first running mate in September presidential election.

Previously, he had accused Mr. Ghani of theoretical constraint, unilateralism, systematic corruption, dictatorship, and mismanagement.

But in an interview with TOLOnews on July 31, Mr. Saleh invited other campaign teams to join Ghani’s team. He said they were “unbeatable”.

“This letter which is written by Mr.Nabil to Amrullah Saleh is a new way of campaign in Afghanistan through which previous problems within the opposing team are shared in a peaceful way and asks the most important figure of the rival team to split and join him,” said Sughra Saadat, a spokesperson for Transparent Election Foundation of Afghanistan.

“They use all types of campaigns which they believe will help their victory. What I want from the election tickets is to take the legitimacy and credibility of the elections into consideration,” said Marwa Amini, a spokesperson for the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan.

Mr. Nabil writes that if Mr. Saleh joins his campaign, it will help them to resolve a big part of current issues facing the nation.
