The Independent Election Commission (IEC) insists that the commission will announce the preliminary results of the elections once it completes the recount of votes in the seven remaining provinces.

But the Solidarity and Convergence team led by Abdullah Abdullah says that it will not accept the election results unless the IEC undertakes to recount of votes in the 27 provinces that it already completed without the presence of Abdullah’s observers.

“Twenty-seven provinces has been completed, the recount and investigations have been completed, the materials have been returned, all procedures for it have been completed here, too, and we are waiting for the remaining seven provinces-- of which 4 have been completed. The legal procedures for the remaining three provinces will be completed soon,” said Esmatullah Mal, deputy head of the IEC.
