The long-awaited final approval of the Electoral Law came through after President Karzai signed it on Wednesday. A press release issued by the Presidential Palace stated that President Karzai approved the Law on Authorities and Job Descriptions of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) and the Electoral Complaints Commission (ECC).

With the ratification of the new law, the way has been paved for holding the Presidential elections in an organised, free and transparent manner.

Meanwhile, the IEC assured that it will implement all its programmes in accordance with the Electoral Law. The IEC emphasised that it is committed to hold the upcoming elections in a fair and transparent manner.

After months of heated discussions in the Lower House and Presidential Palace, President Karzai gave his consent on approving the Law on Authorities and Job Descriptions of the IEC and ECC.
