COVID-19: 160 New Cases, 12 Deaths Reported in Afghanistan

The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday reported 160 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 1,593 samples tested in the last 24 hours.    

The Public Health Ministry also reported 12 deaths and 319 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period.    

The new cases were reported in Herat (46), Kabul (27), Kandahar (1), Nangarhar (10), Takhar (5), Paktia (11), Baghlan (4), Badghis (10), Wardak (3), Laghman (4), Kunar (4), Panjshir (3), Khost (4), Faryab (4) and Nuristan (4) provinces.   

The deaths were reported Kabul (2), Balkh (1), Bamiyan (2), Kunduz (1) and Farah (3) provinces, according to data provided by the Ministry of Public Health.  

The Health Ministry reports the cumulative total cases at 52,007, the number of total reported deaths at 2,170, and the total number of recoveries at 41,331.  

So far, 193,706 samples have been tested in government centers and there are 7,783 known active COVID-19 cases in the country, data by the ministry indicates.   

The number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 1,759,067 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 80,421,430, according to Johns Hopkins University.
