Afghanistan Records Highest Daily COVID-19 Death Toll of 41

Afghanistan reported on Saturday 41 more deaths from the coronavirus, marking the country’s highest daily rise in fatalities and taking the total number of deaths to 3,145, data from the Public Health Ministry showed.

The ministry also reported 1,273 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 3,346 samples tested in the last 24 hours.    

The ministry reported 140 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period.

The new cases were reported in Kabul (481), Kandahar (50), Herat (1), Balkh (105), Nangarhar (64), Kunduz (42), Baghlan (72), Faryab (27), Parwan (50), Helmand (56), Paktia (31), Maidan Wardak (21), Badakhshan (55), Logar (26), Laghman (2), Bamiyan (21), Kunar (1), Ghazni (60), Zabul (16), Farah (12), Khost (20), and Jawzjan (60) provinces.

The deaths were reported in Kabul (10), Balkh (7), Kandahar (2), Nangarhar (1), Kunduz (4), Helmand (3), Paktia (3), Maidan Wardak (1), Nimroz (1), Logar (1), Laghman (1), Ghazni (1), Kunar (2), Khost (2), Jawzjan (1) and Samangan (1) provinces.

The ministry reported that the cumulative total of known COVID-19 cases is 79,236, the total number of reported deaths is 3,145, and the total number of recoveries is 58,265.

So far, 492,185 samples have been tested in government centers and there are 17,746 known active COVID-19 cases in the country, data by the ministry indicates.

According to Johns Hopkins University, the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 3,713,468 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 172,621,623.
