COVID-19: 1,226 New Cases, 84 Deaths Reported in Afghanistan

On Thursday, the Ministry of Public Health reported 1,226 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 3,888 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also reported 84 deaths from COVID-19 and 1,241 recoveries in the same period.

The number of total recorded cases is 131,586 and total deaths 5,561, according to figures by the Public Health Ministry.

The number of recovered patients had reached 78,521.

The ministry also said that nearly 600 people have died of COVID-19 and more than 11,000 others were infected in the past week across the country.

The officials at the ministry also mentioned that “if the situation still continues the same as now, the universities, schools, wedding halls and swimming pools will remain closed.”

Also, a number of the patients’ families are complaining about lack of oxygen at the hospitals.

“There are a lot of patients and there is not enough oxygen, and the oxygen system is only for 30 patients,” said Zalmai, a family member of patients.

Jamshed Kohistani, head of Qasaba hospital, said: "People should be cautious and consider the health ministry’s advice, but our people are unfortunately reckless and do not even wear masks,”

Johns Hopkins University reports that the number of deaths from COVID-19 globally is more than 4,004,516 and the number of known global coronavirus cases is 185,219,308.
