The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday reported 414 new positive cases of COVID-19 out of 1,124 samples tested in the last 24 hours.

The ministry also reported 52 deaths and 1,224 recoveries from COVID-19 in the same period. The figures show a slight increase in the number of both new cases and fatalities compared to the daily report on Saturday.

The new cases were reported in Kabul (22), Kandahar (14), Herat (154), Nangarhar (43), Kunduz (7), Balkh (7), Maidan Wardak (23), Helmand (19), Bamiyan (16), Ghazni (13), Badakhshan (13), Daikundi (35), Logar (4), Laghman (13), Panjshir (2), Ghor (17) and Sar-e-Pul (12) provinces.

The deaths were reported in Kabul (16), Herat (1), Nangarhar (14), Takhar (2), Maidan Wardak (5), Helmand (1), Badakhshan (1), Paktia (1), Kapisa (1), Logar (1), Laghman (2), Farah (2), Khost (4) and Sar-e-Pul (1) provinces.

Data by the ministry shows that the total number of cases is 144,285, total deaths stand at 6,477 and total recoveries are at 93,059.

According to the data, 24.4% of all tests were positive in the past 24 hours across the country.

Schools and universities were reopened after nearly two months, but the Higher Education Ministry said public universities will reopen gradually over the next two weeks. The ministry reiterated that before the start of classes, students should get vaccinated against COVID-19.

The total confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the world stands at 193,832,974 and total deaths are at 4,154,933, according to Johns Hopkins University.
