The Ministry of Public Health on Sunday reported 85 new positive cases out of 378 tested in the past 24 hours.
The ministry also reported 16 deaths due to COVID-19 over the last 24 hours while 81 others have recovered.
With this, the total known COVID-19 cases in the country is 34,451, the number of total known deaths is 1,010 and the total number of reported recoveries is 21,216.
Meanwhile, the number of known active cases of COVID-19 in the country is 12,225 and, so far, 79,732 samples have been tested, according to data by the Ministry.
Bamiyan province led with 20 positive cases followed by Herat with 18 and Kabul with 14 COVID-19 cases.
The recoveries were reported in Kabul (63) and Kandahar (18).
The deaths were reported in Kabul (12), Herat (2) and Kandahar (2).
This comes after the president of the Afghanistan Islamic Medical Association (AIMA), Sayed Khalid Rashid, said Friday that if the public continues to ignore health measures intended to prevent the coronavirus, Afghanistan will face a catastrophe.
Rashid said the government has been unable to manage the coronavirus in the country and has failed to implement prevention programs.
