China's Medical Supply Shipment Arrives in Kabul

Wang Yu, China's ambassador to Kabul, said Thursday that the supplies include respirators, medical clothing and masks.

“The virus is the enemy of all Afghan people,"and it requires "constant efforts and united response from all walks of life of Afghanistan," said Yu, "No one can stand alone in the epidemic prevention and control."

The COVID-19 epidemic poses a challenge and an opportunity to Afghanistan, said Yu, adding: "we sincerely hope that each Afghan political group will keep in mind that the bigger picture of the country's future [is] over all the interest of the Afghan people, working together to fight the epidemic and [to] realize peace in Afghanistan,” said Wang Yu, the ambassador.

The second vice president Mohammad Sarwar Danish, who visited the Hamid Karzai International airport to receive the aid, said that a budget between 20 and 50 million afghanis has been allocated across all the provinces to fight the coronavirus, and to provide food for the needy.

Government officials say soon aid from Uzbekistan will also arrived in Kabul.

“We are trying to first coordinate on how we use these aids, and secondly to use them effectively, and third, to be transparent in consumption,” said Danish.

China, where the disease was discovered, has now been able to control its spread within its own borders, but the virus has now spread to more than 195 countries and infected about one million people.

The Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) held an online lunching ceremony of the paper titled "Impact of Non-Pharmaceutical Interventions to Reduce #COVID19 Mortality."

“In this study, the focus is on how we can reduce the rate of transmission of the virus by reducing the intensity of contact between populations,” said Abdulbasir Azimi, collaborative researcher at AISS.

The coronavirus has become a global crisis, with citizens saying the disaster will shake the nation if the government does not take severe measures to fight its spread.
