Residents in Kabul, along with a number of doctors, on Saturday questioned the way the Afghan Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has been handling the spread of the COVID-10 pandemic in the country, saying the Health Ministry has failed in handling the pandemic among the people in the right way despite massive international funds.

“If we expect something from the Ministry of Health, then we should be prepared for a major sacrifice, perhaps the nation will be sacrificed--we can't do anything,” said Mamoon Alrashid, a doctor in Kabul.

“We have a patient in our home, but we do not take him to the hospital, the government is incompetent, we are disappointed with the government,” said Siyar, a resident in Kabul.

“We are not satisfied with the government’s program, the government is deceiving us,” said Abdul Raziq, a resident in Kabul.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health officials have said that the number of active cases of COVID-19 have decreased in the cities, however the pandemic is on the rise on the villages and in the remote regions of the country.

“If we do not manage the current situation or move towards improvement, God forbid, we will face a new wave of coronavirus,” said Jawad Osmani, the acting minister of health.

Osmani stated that the Health Ministry has purchased 500 ventilators from Germany and soon 106 of them will be supplied to the provinces.

Previously, Osmani stated that all hospitals across the country are prepared to treat COVID-19 patients.

So far the there are 35,229 known people who have been diagnosed with the virus, and, of that figure, 1,147 patients have died and 23,208 others have recovered.
