The EU Envoy to Afghanistan Roland Kobia on Sunday emphasized the need for the resumption of peace negotiation talks between the US and the Taliban.

The talks were scuttled in early September after US President Donald Trump announced that Washington was pulling out of the talks after the Taliban claimed an attack that killed 12 people in Kabul, including an American soldier.

Organized by the psychology department of Kabul University, speakers at a seminar on Sunday warned of dire consequences for Afghan children if their exploitation by insurgents and other illegal armed groups is not prevented.

“A child who is deprived of going to school today will of course face major challenges when he becomes a youth and then he is exploited by the armed opposition groups,” said Sattaruddin Sediqqi, rector of the Psychology Faculty of Kabul University.
