Afghan Footballer Joins Real Kashmir FC

Islamuddin Amiri, Afghanistan's national football team’s defender, has joined Real Kashmir FC in the Indian football league.

The new session of India’s I-League will start on January 9.

“Honored to be part of this Great Club Real Kashmir FC. It feels great to wear this fantastic colors Flag of India,” Amiri wrote on his Twitter, adding that “New Season... New Challenge... Mission I-league.”

“Eagerly waiting to get on the pitch,” he added.

Amiri has nearly 60 international appearances for Afghanistan’s national football team and he is Afghanistan’s all-time most-capped player, according to FIFA website.

At club level, he is a trail-blazer and became the first home-grown Afghan player to play overseas when he joined India’s Mumbai in 2011.

He has since made a name there with a series of Indian clubs and becoming a fan-favourite figure.

The I-League, is one of the two co-existing premier football leagues in the Indian football system along with Indian Super League.

The competition was founded in 2007.
