Construction of Kabul Volleyball Gymnasium to Take Six Months

The construction of a volleyball gymnasium at the National Olympic Committee’s compound will take six months as its work has progressed by 25% so far, officials said on Friday.

The government has invested 43 million Afs ($55,000) in the construction of the gymnasium that officials said will meet international norms.

“We were given one year for its construction. We will complete this project within six months,” said Haroon Khostwal, an official of a construction company.

The Afghan volleyball federation said similar gymnasiums will be built in provinces in near future.

“The gymnasium is only dedicated to volleyball and it meets all international norms… We hope to build more of such gymnasiums in other provinces,” head of the federation Ghulam Bahauddin Jailani said.

The director of the physical education and the national Olympic committee, Hafizullah Wali Rahimi, said the construction of the gymnasium is part of efforts to remove hurdles in the way of the improvement of the sport.

“The construction of such gymnasiums improves technical and professional skills of athletes,” Rahimi said.

The gymnasium is being built on 0.2 hectares of land at the national Olympic committee’s compound in Kabul.
