Afghan Athlete Wins Gold Medal at Asian Taekwondo Championship

Afghanistan’s Mohsen Rezaee won a gold medal in the 2021 Asian Taekwondo Championships by defeating his rival from South Korea in the final match in Lebanon on Thursday, becoming the first-ever Afghan to win a medal at the competition.

The 2021 Asian Taekwondo Championships were attended by 189 athletes from 21 countries.

Rezaee competed in the 58 kg weight category and defeated his rivals from Kuwait, Chinese Taipei and Pakistan. His final match against Kim Young-hwan from South Korea. Rezaee won by scoring 21 over 12.

In the same weight category, Kim Young-hwan from South Korea got a silver medal, and Armin Hadipour from Iran and Haroon Khan from Pakistan got bronze medals.
