Two Afghan Athletes to Compete on Friday in Olympic Games

Fahim Anwari in swimming and Kmimia Yosefi in athletics are the two Afghan athletes who will compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games on Friday. 

Anwari has been training for the past six months in Russia to prepare.

Anwari’s competition will start at 2:30pm (Kabul time) on Friday.

Kamimia Yosefi will complete at 4:30pm on Friday in the 100 meters athletic competition, according to Afghanistan’s National Olympic Committee.

Anwari has won medals for Afghanistan in Asian competitions.  

"I hope that my efforts and the efforts of my coaches will be able to win a medal and bring pride to my country,” he said. 

Afghanistan’s Swimming Federation officials have spoken of special measures to make the Afghan national team shine in tomorrow's competition. 

"Fahim's training is continuing, it is the first time that an Afghan swimmer is competing in this big event, we hope our efforts will pay off," said Qasim Ali Hamidi, president of Afghanistan’s Swimming Federation. 

Five Afghan athletes entered the Tokyo Olympics. 

On Sunday, Mahdi Yovari, an Afghan in Tokyo competing in the shooting category, was eliminated. His score was 601.4 points, and he did not qualify for the next round. 
Yovari came in 47th place in the competition, Afghanistan’s National Olympic Committee confirmed on Sunday. 

On Tuesday, Farzad Mansouri, an Afghan taekwondo athlete also lost to his South Korean rival in the competition. 

Mahmood Noorzahi, an Afghan competitor in the athletics competition has not yet competed in the Olympic Games.
