Afghanistan Falls to West Indies by 104 Runs in ICC Men's T20 World Cup

The Afghanistan national cricket team faced the West Indies team in their fourth match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup, 2024 early this morning (Tuesday, June 18).

At the beginning, the West Indies team chose to bat and set a target of 219 runs for Afghanistan by losing 5 wickets in 20 overs.

In the second phase of this match, national cricket team players went to the field to achieve the target set by West Indies, but the Afghan players, by losing all their wickets in the 17th over, only scored 114 runs and ultimately lost to the West Indies by 104 runs.

Afghanistan head coach Jonathan Trott, said: "We need more effort, and it is a fact that the game has its black and white angles. We will perform better in the next games."

"India and Australia are powerful teams and have more experience in world competitions. We are seeking changes in the team composition so that we can achieve good results in the next stage," said Mohammad Munir Zadran, a cricket analyst.

Despite this defeat, the advancement of the Afghanistan national team to the top eight in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup has been warmly welcomed by fans and citizens.

"Winning and losing is part of the game, and we are proud of the players and confident that they will perform better in the upcoming games," said Mohammad Shoaib, a cricket fan.

"We always support all the country's athletes and hope to achieve good results in the World Cup," said  Rafiullah, a resident of Kabul.

While the Afghanistan players were defeated by West Indies by 104 runs, they will face the Indian team in the first quarter-final match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in two days.
