The ninth season of the Shpageeza T20 cricket league, will be held at the cricket field in Kabul in less than ten days.
Officials from the Afghanistan Cricket Board provided details about this season’s matches in a press conference held in Kabul today (Sunday), with national team players, imcluding Rashid Khan Arman.
"To improve the Shpageeza League matches, we have brought standard equipment from abroad to Afghanistan, which will be very useful in the umpiring section," said Nazeem Jar Abdul Rahimzai, the CEO of the cricket board.
In this tournament, the teams of Boost, Amo, Mes Aynak, Band-e-Amir, and Spin Ghar will compete for the championship cup over thirteen days.
Ahmad Shah Sulimankhil, the acting chief selector of the cricket board, said: "The captain of Band-e-Amir is Hashmatullah Shahidi, the captain of Mes Aynak is Ibrahim Zadran, the captain of Spin Ghar is Rashid Khan, the captain of Boost is Rahmat Shah, and finally, the captain of the Amo team is Azmatullah Omarzai."
Officials said that the players participating in the Shpageeza T20 cricket league have been selected through trials into five teams.
Wali Amin, head of the capacity-building of the cricket board, said: "The decision of the cricket board is to reduce the number of teams and focus more on quality. If we hold the tournament with eight teams, there will be more than 80 players."
Mir Mubarez, a member of the selection committee of the cricket board, said: "We have evenly distributed the national cricket team players across all teams to ensure team balance."
The ninth season of the Shpageeza T20 cricket league will start on August 12th of this year, hosted by Kabul, featuring 21 matches over thirteen days.
