Amo Sharks emerged victorious in the final match of the ninth edition of the Shpageeza Cricket League, defeating Band-e-Amir Dragons by seven wickets to claim the coveted championship.
Band-e-Amir won the toss and opted to bat first, setting a formidable target of 179 runs for Amo within the allotted 20 overs.
For Band-e-Amir, Sediqullah Atal shone with a solid 75 runs off 57 balls, while Hashmatullah Shahidi remained unbeaten, contributing an impressive 78 runs off 53 balls.
Amo Sharks’ response was marked by a game-changing performance from Zubaid Akbari, whose rapid-fire 40 runs off just 14 balls turned the tide in their favor. His explosive innings, along with strong contributions from Shahid Kamal and Mohammad Ishaq Rahimi, guided Amo to victory in just 18.5 overs.
Shahid Kamal played a crucial role with an unbeaten 59 runs off 38 balls, while Ishaq Rahimi added a steady 47 runs from 43 balls, ensuring the Sharks secured the title.
Commenting on the Shpageeza Cricket League, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesperson Sayed Naseem Sadat remarked, "Afghanistan’s cricket stars gathered in Kabul to participate in these matches. They were teamed up with young players, and I’m confident that this experience has been immensely valuable for the youth."
National team opener Sediq Atal also highlighted the league's significance, stating, "With top players like Rashid Khan, Naveen, and Fazal Haq in the mix, performing well against them is a huge confidence booster."
Looking ahead, the domestic cricket First-Class matches are set to begin soon, with Nangarhar as the host.
