Ehsanullah Janat, a former national cricketer who was banned by the Afghanistan Cricket Board for five years for alleged financial corruption in the Kabul League, has now filed a complaint with the Supreme Court.
The former national player told TOLOnews that the Afghanistan Cricket Board’s decision against him was unfair.
Janat said: “I emailed the Cricket Board three times. I told them that the decision they announced is not acceptable to me and asked them to reconsider, but they did not provide any response. I was forced to file a complaint with the Supreme Court.”
The former Afghan cricketer claimed to have documents and evidence proving his innocence, which he intends to submit to the Supreme Court.
Ehsanullah Janat added: “I have not accepted any wrongdoing with them, and they have no documents. They accuse me based on a video, claiming I prepared it as evidence to identify the main target and the real person. Despite this, the Cricket Board has repeatedly sought my help on this matter, and I have all the evidence, which I will present to the Supreme Court.”
Meanwhile, cricket analysts have criticized the actions of the Afghanistan Cricket Board against Ehsanullah Janat and some other players, calling for fair decisions in such cases.
“This news is bad for Afghanistan cricket, it is also bad for the future of Afghanistan and for the youth. Ehsanullah Janat performed well, but unfortunately, due to a deal, this matter occurred, and all of Ehsanullah Janat’s achievements in cricket were reduced to zero,” Khalid Hotak, a cricket analyst, told TOLOnews.
“It is necessary for the Cricket Board to follow up on such matters regarding a player until the very last moment and then make a decision,” said Islam Totakhil, another cricket analyst.
Officials from the Afghanistan Cricket Board only confirmed that they had received a letter from the Supreme Court concerning Ehsanullah Janat. The Cricket Board refrained from providing further details.
Sayed Naseem Sadat, the spokesperson for the Afghanistan Cricket Board, told TOLOnews: “This matter was previously published on the Cricket Board's page. We have received a letter from the Supreme Court requesting information on the matter, and we will share the information with them.”
Earlier, some former national team players had also criticized the leadership of the Afghanistan Cricket Board for their actions against them, a matter that the Cricket Board officials have denied.
