Afghanistan’s Boxing Team Heads to Sri Lanka for Asian Championship

Afghanistan’s national boxing team departed for Sri Lanka this morning, Sunday, May 11, to participate in the Asian Amateur Boxing Championships.

The team includes five athletes: Firdaws Najibi, Mujtaba Sharifi, Abdullah Qayumi, Oman Hotak, and Mobasser Qateh. They will compete in three weight categories. They are accompanied by two coaches.

Officials from the Boxing Federation told TOLOnews that the championship will begin tomorrow, Monday, in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka.

Before traveling, the Afghan boxers participated in a training camp in Kabul to prepare.

The Afghan boxers previously earned two bronze medals in international competitions held in Iran.
