Afghan Muay Thai Athletes Win Medals

Afghanistan’s youth Muay Thai team won a bronze medal at the Youth World Championships in Turkey, and a gold and silver medal in a Muay Talay competition.  

The event was hosted by the International Federation of Muay Thai Associations. 

In the Muay Thai competition, Aminullah Karimi in the men’s 54 kg category beat rivals from Algeria, UK and France, but lost to a Belgian to win a bronze medal.

In the Muay Talay category, he won a gold medal by beating competitors from Poland and Peru, officials at Afghanistan’s National Olympic Committee have confirmed.

Farhad Husaini, another Afghan team member, won against Mongolia and Colombia but lost to a Russian rival in the Men’s 57kg weight class.  He did not win any medals in the Muay Thai competition, but in Muay Talay he beat competitors from Sri Lanka and Israel and won a silver medal.

The competition ran from Sept. 28 to Oct. 6 and included 75 countries.
