Afghan Olympic Swimmer Amid COVID-19 Trains in Lake

Fahim Anwari, a national team swimmer and Afghanistan's representative at the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, is preparing during days of quarantine at Qargha Lake in Kabul, according to the head of the Afghan swimming federation, Qasim Hamidi.
 

Anwari is training for three days a week with Hamidi, who is also the head coach of the national swimming team.
 
“With the help of the Afghan National Olympic Committee, we have planned a three-month to a six-month training course for Fahim with a partner and a coach abroad for further preparation, and this can help athletes,” said Qasim Hamidi, head of the federation.
 
Anwari says he has been swimming up to 5 km a day since his preparations for the 2021 Olympics began and he is working hard to win a medal for Afghanistan at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
 
“My effort and goal from the beginning were to be able to win medals for my country...and to raise the flag of my country in overseas competitions to the people of the world. God willing, I will do what I can to achieve my goals,” said Fahim Anwari, national swimmer of Afghanistan.

Aman Hamidi is another swimmer and member of the National Youth Swimming Team and partner and teammate to Anwari, the only representative of the country's swimming in the 2021 Olympics. In case for any reason Fahim Anwari cannot participate in the Olympic competitions, Aman Hamidi will be the alternate to represent Afghanistan.
 
“Previously, our training was six days a week in pools, but now, due to the outbreak of the coronavirus, we cannot train there, and training in Qargha Lake is very useful for maintaining our readiness and participating in overseas competitions,” said Mohammad Aman Hamidi. Member of the National Youth Swimming Team.
 
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games were postponed for a year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus worldwide and are scheduled to take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021, according to the new schedule.
