Afghan Taekwondo Team in China for International Championships

Afghanistan’s National Taekwondo Team left Kabul on Sunday for China to participate in the 2019 Belt and Road China Open International Taekwondo Championships, which start on November 7.

The Nov. 7-9 event will be held in Xi’an city of Shaanxi province in central China and will host more than 70 participating countries.

“On November 6 the athletes will be categorized and the championships will kick off on the 7th, which will then finish after two days,” said Bashir Taraki, the National Taekwondo Team coach.

Rohullah Nekpa, another National Taekwondo Team coach, said that the athletes started preparing months ago and are ready for their competitions.

“The athletes trained and worked hard to bring medals and to get a good result. We hope to not return home with empty hands,” Nekpa said.

Mohsen Rezare, Hikmatullah, Farzad Mansoori, Hussain Latifi, Zahra Mirzaye and Samia Ghulami are the athletes representing Afghanistan in the championships.

“We will try our best to get a good result,” said Mohsen Rezare, a member of the Afghan team, who added: “We ask our people to pray for us so we shine in the championships.”

The athlete who wins a gold medal with earning 10 points in the world ranking while the second and third will get six and three points, respectively.

China Open International Taekwondo Championships are hosted annually by the World and Asian Taekwondo Federations.
