Afghan U19 Cricket Team Advances to Quarterfinals of World Cup

Afghanistan’s U19 cricket team defeated UAE by 160 runs in their second match in the U19 Cricket World Cup in South Africa, and will progress to the quarterfinals.

In Wednesday's game, after winning the toss, Afghanistan opted to bat first and posted 265-6 in 50 overs.

Afghanistan’s Farhan Zakhil-led team dominated the match and they defeated the UAE by a massive margin of 160 runs.

Opener Ibrahim Zadran continued his red-hot form and smashed his second half-century in the competition. The right-handed batsman scored 87 runs.

His team-mate Rahmanullah also scored a fifty and played a crucial knock of 81 runs.

UAE crumpled against Afghanistan’s bowlers and Shafiqullah Gafari, who dismantled South Africa’s batting line-up in the tournament’s opener, once again exhibited brilliance in the bowling and claimed his second five-wicket haul in the competition.

UAE couldn’t hold their innings for long as they got all-out on 105 inside 33 overs.

Gafari was honored with the ‘Player of the Match’ award.

Afghanistan will face Canada on Friday in their next group match. The match will kick off at 12:30pm Afghanistan time.
