Australia Beat Afghanistan In Their World Cup Opener

Australia defeated Afghanistan by seven wickets in the first World Cup match in Bristol.
 
Batting first, Afghanistan were all out for 207 runs in 39th over. Opening batsmen Mohammad Shahzad and Hazratullah lost their wickets without scoring any runs. Middle-order batsmen Rahmat Shah and Hashmatullah Shahidi stabilized the innings for Afghanistan. However, Shahidi was out stumped off Adam Zampa for 18. Rahmat Shah and Mohammad Nabi followed as Afghanistan were struggling at 77/5 in 21st over.
 
Najibullah Zadran and Skipper Gulbadin Naib tried to bring Afghanistan back into the game with an amazing partnership of 83 runs for the sixth wicket before Naib was out for 31. Naib’s wicket started a collapse as Afghanistan lost the wickets of Najibullah Zadran and Dawlat Zadran in quick succession.
 
Najibuallah top-scored with 51 runs while Dawlat could only manage 4 runs. Rashid Khan played a quick cameo of 27 runs taking Afghanistan past 200 before Afghanistan were all out for 207 runs in 39th over.
 
Australia’s Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa took 3 wickets each while Stoinis took two.
 
In response, Australia chased the target in 35th over. Man of the match David Warner top-scored with 89 runs while Aaron Finch scored an impressive knock of 66 runs. Gulbadin Naib, Rashid Khan and Mujeeb ur Rahman took a wicket each for Afghanistan.
 
Afghanistan will face Sri Lanka in their second match of the tournament at Sophia Gardens.
