Football: Afghanistan to Face India In 2022 World Cup Qualifiers

Afghanistan’s National Football Team will host India on Thursday night in Dushanbe, Tajikistan in a qualifying match for both the 2022 FIFA World Cup and 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

“Tomorrow will be a good match,”said Anoush Dastgir, Afghanistan’s head coach, who added: “You can’t say which team will win the match.”

India's coach, Igor Stimac, believes that his team will have a tough night against Afghanistan.

“Afghanistan has chosen the venue to make others' lives difficult and we have an uphill task in front of us to overcome it," he said.

"It's very cold and mercury level drops to close to sub-zero," he added.

The Afghan team held its last training session on Wednesday to prepare for Thursday night’s match.

“Everyone isready for the match and we believe that we will win the match,” said Afghanistan’s striker, Omran Haydary.

Ovays Azizi, Afghanistan’s goalkeeper, said: “We know that this match is very important, and it will also have an effect on the rankings. It’s also important to the Afghan people.”

Currently, Qatar is on top of Group E with 10 points, Oman is second with 6 points, Afghanistan is third with 3 points, Indian is in fourth with 2 points and Bangladesh is in fifth place with one point.
