Mountain Biking Race Held In Herat

A Mountain biking race was held in Herat province in the west on Friday in which 24 cyclists from four teams participated.

The cyclists paddled 25 kilometers in Herat mountains in the north of province.

Abdullah Asim got the first position in the competition.

Hussain Amirdad and Enayatullah Khaksar got the second and third positions respectively. 

“This is the first time that mountain biking competition is held in Herat,” said Mohammad Sediq Jame, deputy head of Herat Cycling Federation. “The participation of dozens of cyclists show that cycling is improving in the province.”

Cyclists who participated at the event, welcomed the move, saying that it will play a vital role in improving the sport in the province.

“Eight years ago we were 12 cyclists and we were participating both in mountain biking and road cycling races. But the number of cyclists is growing and now we have at least 100 cyclists in Herat,” cyclist Aziz Ahmad Amiri said. 

“We have six cycling teams in Herat and the youths have an increasing interest in the sport,” another cyclist Ahmad Shafiq Ehsan said.

The cycling federation in Herat said they will continue their efforts to further improve the sport in the province.

Cycling federation said the number of cyclists has increased to at least 100 while it was 12 few years ago.
