Iranians started voting on Friday morning with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei calling for a high turnout in the country’s presidential election.
The election is likely to be won by a judge loyal to the religious establishment.
“Each vote counts ... come and vote and choose your president ... this is important for the future of your country,” Khamenei said after casting his vote in the capital Tehran as quoted in a report by Reuters.
Iran has at least 59 million eligible voters. However, Iran’s deputy minister of interior has estimated a turnout of just 47%.
