The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement in reaction to US President Joe Biden's remarks on al-Qaeda in Afghanistan said the Islamic Emirate considers the remarks about “the non-existence of armed groups in Afghanistan as acknowledgment of reality.”
In response to a question about “mistakes in Afghanistan withdrawal”, Biden said: “Remember what I said about Afghanistan? I said al-Qaida would not be there. I said it wouldn’t be there. I said we’d get help from the Taliban. What’s happening now? What’s going on? Read your press. I was right.”
MoFA spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi said Biden’s remarks “refute the recent report by the UN Sanctions Monitoring Team alleging the presence and operation of over 20 armed groups in Afghanistan."
The international community and the UN have often expressed their concerns over threats posed by insurgent groups in Afghanistan, but the Islamic Emirate has assured that such threats have been prevented.
