Masoud Pezeshkian Elected President of Iran

Masoud Pezeshkian, who was elected as the ninth president of Iran today (Saturday, July 6), is one of the prominent political and medical figures in the country.

This Iranian doctor and politician was born on September 29, 1954, in Tabriz and specializes in general surgery and cardiovascular surgery.

He completed his primary education in his hometown of Mahabad and received a diploma in food industries from Urmia Agricultural Technical High School.

After obtaining his diploma, he was transferred to Zabol in Sistan and Baluchestan province in 1973 for military service. During this period, he developed an interest in medicine.

Consequently, after completing his military service in 1975, he obtained a second diploma in experimental sciences and was accepted to study medicine at Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 1976.

Pezeshkian has also served as a Member of Parliament and as the Minister of Health in Iran. He was one of the leading candidates in the 14th presidential election of Iran and ultimately won the election.

According to Mohsen Eslami, the spokesperson for the country’s election commission, Pezeshkian won the 14th presidential election of Iran by securing 16,384,403 votes out of a total of 30,530,157 votes.

The other candidate, Saeed Jalili, who made it to the second round, received 13,538,179 votes. Before this, Ebrahim Raisi was the president of Iran, who died along with his travel companions in a helicopter crash.
