United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) announced that globally, women journalists and media workers face increasing offline and online attacks and are subject to disproportionate and specific threats.
UNESCO said every threat against a journalist is a threat against freedom.
UNESCO said the gender-based violence they are exposed to implies stigmatization, sexist hate speech, trolling, physical assault, rape, and even murder.
UNESCO said that this organization supports the safety of women journalists and works with its partners to identify and implement effective solutions.
The United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) during “16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence," announced that globally one in three women experience physical or sexual violence, mostly by an intimate partner.
This organization has emphasized that violence against women is a blatant violation of human rights that persists daily across the globe.
