Nearly 300 Dead in Three Days of Intense Clashes in Syria

Along with claims by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a group opposing Bashar al-Assad's government, regarding the capture of Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights announced that nearly 300 people have been killed in these clashes over the past three days.

The Syrian army has announced that its forces have temporarily withdrawn from the city of Aleppo.

Mohammad Hussein Al-Joubi, a member of HTS, said: "The operation started three days ago and thank God we liberated the whole western countryside (of Aleppo) with the hands of Mujahideen (fighters). We say to our brothers in the liberated areas: you are safe as long as the Mujahideen are here. These are the vehicles of (Syrian President Bashar al-Assad) Assad's gangs in the hands of Mujahideen."

Additionally, several other opponents of the current Syrian government, who claimed to have left Aleppo in 2016, have now announced after capturing and entering the city that they have regained control of Aleppo after years.

Mohammad Izzo, one of Assad’s opponents, said: “We stepped into Aleppo, after being away for five years, or seven years for displacement, by God's will and the efforts of the fighters, Aleppo is now under full control. God is the greatest, praise be to God. I am the son of Aleppo, I returned to my city and my land and my home by the will of God and we will not give up a single inch of the lands of Syria."

Ali Jumaa, another opponent of Assad, said: "Thanks to God and after 8 years of being displaced from it by the doing of Assad family and his criminal machine. Today we returned to Aleppo by the will of God, we returned to our country, I am the son of Aleppo, and was displaced from it eight years ago, in 2016. Thank God we just returned. It is an indescribable feeling to return to your country, your land, the place you were brought up in."

The clashes between HTS forces and Assad's government troops intensified after HTS launched an attack on Wednesday on dozens of towns and villages in northwestern Aleppo, which are under the control of Assad's government.

Meanwhile, Russia has committed to providing military aid to the Syrian government and has announced that this aid will likely reach Syria within 72 hours.

HTS, one of the groups opposing the Syrian government, has claimed that it has gained access to the center of Aleppo, Syria’s second-largest city.
