Severe Cold Claims Lives of Gaza Displaced Amid Aid Blockade

Residents of Gaza, displaced by the intense conflict between Israel and Hamas, are now facing harsh conditions due to cold weather and rain.

According to Reuters, six people have died so far due to the freezing temperatures. Some media outlets have reported the death toll as seven.

Yahya Al-Batran, who fled his home in Beit Lahia in northern Gaza due to the escalating war, now lives in a camp with his wife and twin sons, Jumaa and Ali. Tragically, two days ago, he lost one of his sons, Jumaa, to the cold.

Yahya told Reuters that his wife informed him their son Jumaa was unresponsive. "She said she had been trying to wake Jumaa up, but he was not waking up, and I asked about Ali and she said, he was not walking up either," he said. "I held up Jumaa, he was white and freezing like snow, like ice, frozen."

Reuters added that Jumaa is among six people who have died in Gaza’s camps due to the cold and rain. Reports indicate that Yahya’s other son, Ali, is in critical condition and is currently hospitalized.

According to reports, Israel has blocked aid organizations from delivering assistance to the displaced in Gaza’s camps. However, Israel claims it has allowed aid organizations to transfer assistance.
