Palestinians in Gaza have once again expressed hope that Israel’s approval of a U.S.-proposed ceasefire could bring them peace. They have called for a permanent end to the war in Gaza this time.
Samir Shaheen, a displaced Palestinian, said: "We heard yesterday in the news that U.S. President Donald Trump announced a decision that he will stop the war on Gaza. We hope this decision happens as soon as possible, because frankly, we are tired and had enough of the injustice and the genocide we're being subjected to."
Samir Al-Masri, a resident of the Gaza Strip, stated: "We want a complete end to the war on Gaza, not like every time, a partial agreement and ceasefire that last a month or two then the war returns. No, we want a complete end to this war and this genocide, with them taking their hostages, releasing our prisoners held in their jails, the rebuilding of Gaza and bringing life back to our people in Gaza Strip."
Adnan Al-Assar, another resident, said: "We hope he’s honest this time. We're used to him not being honest in the previous times. We hope he is serious like he was seirous during the Israeli-Iranian war - when he said the war should stop, and it stopped. (U.S. president Donald) Trump can stop the war if he wants to."
On the other side, Israel is also facing internal and international pressure to end the war. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar stated that Israel is seriously pursuing a ceasefire agreement with Hamas.
"Hamas still holds 50 of our hostages in captivity. The war can end tomorrow if it releases them and lays down its arms. We are serious in our will to reach a hostage deal and a ceasefire." Sa’ar added.
On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump said Israel had agreed to the terms necessary for a 60-day ceasefire in Gaza. According to Trump, the final proposal will be presented to Hamas by mediators from Qatar and Egypt.
Hamas confirmed on Wednesday that it is reviewing what the U.S. president described as the "final proposal" for a ceasefire in Gaza. Meanwhile, the war-weary and displaced people of Gaza continue to hope for an end to a conflict that has martyred over 57,000 and displaced millions.
