WHO Director-General Urges Israel to Lift Aid Restrictions on Gaza

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), called on Israel to lift the restrictions on aid delivery to the Gaza Strip.

He added that following Israel's attack on the Rafah area in the southern Gaza Strip, the route for delivering humanitarian and medical aid to this city has been cut off.

The WHO Director-General said: “Crossings from Egypt into Gaza have remained closed for two weeks, cutting off the primary pipeline for emergency health supplies into Gaza.”

In recent Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, 85 Palestinians have been killed, and 200 others have been injured.

Recently, Israeli forces also bombed the emergency department of Kamal Adwan Hospital in the northern Gaza Strip.

Hussam Abu Safa, the head of Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza, said: “We cannot go inside to them. We tried to go in but the building nearby the hospital was hit. The situation is catastrophic. We never really imagined that one day the emergency department would be hit. The emergency department provides a service for children, the elderly and people inside the departments of the hospital. We don’t know what the reason is.”

“As you can see, (this is) the evacuation of the wounded and the team from inside the medical complex. The occupation army is still committing massacres against civilians and the health system. The occupation army does not want any kind of resilience from our Palestinian people. As you can see, the medical team has left under the bombardment, fire and tanks from the Kamal Adwan medical complex,” said Fares Afana, a member of the emergency team at Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza.
Pentagon spokesperson Pat Ryder announced the dispatch of 569 tons of humanitarian aid to the residents of the Gaza Strip.

"Over 569 metric tons of humanitarian assistance has been delivered across the temporary pier, or JLOTS (Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore), to Gaza for further distribution by humanitarian partners with more aid on the way,” said Pentagon spokesperson.

The US Department of Defense spokesman added that this aid has been donated by the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, the European Union, and many other partners.
