MEHWAR: MoI Bans Public Gatherings Because of Coronavirus

The Afghan Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Wednesday called for all venues that attract large crowds--including entertainment places, sports grounds, swimming pools, fitness clubs and wedding halls--to shut down in order to slow the spread of the coronavirus – COVID-19.

The Interior Ministry threatened legal action against those defying the order.

“In order to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the government committee on public relations has decided to insist that hotels, swimming pools, public bathrooms and sports centers stop their activities where people gather in large numbers,” said Tariq Aryan, a spokesman for the Ministry of Interior.
