Legendary Afghan Singer Ahmad Zahir

Ahmad Zahir, a celebrity of endless popularity was born on June 14, 1946. His father late Dr Zahir was one of the most influential politicians in the country and Afghan Prime Minister during King Zahir Shah's Regime.

Ahmad Zahir, started singing during his childhood while he was attending school concerts with his band. On the first days of his carrier he became very popular. After graduation from school he continued his education in Dar-ul-Aman Teacher Training Institute which later he attended a two-year English Language Programme in India. But his main course of life was to sing.

During his short lifetime he sang the most beautiful and unforgettable songs with poems of the most well-known poets like Maulana Jalaluddin Balkhi, Hafiz Shirazi, Saadi Shriazi and many more as and Ustad Nainawaz and compositions from famous Afghan song composers like Ustad Salim Sarmat, Ustad Fazl Ahmad Nainawaz and Ustad Nangyalai.

Finally, he was assassinated on his 33rd birthday on June 14, 1979. But after passing over a quarter of a decade he's the most popular and beloved singer among different generations.

The cause of his death was officially announced as a traffic accident, but many believe that his assignation was a pre-planned conspiracy by the government and some of his friends.
