The National Directorate of Security issued a statement confirming the death of Asim Omar, a “member of Al Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent,” killed in an operation by Afghan forces in the Musa Qala district of Helmand province.

According to the NDS, Omar was killed along with six other “Al Qaeda members,” who had been embedded inside a “Taliban compound” in Musa Qala.

President Ashraf Ghani, a contender in the current election, said there is confidence among his team about their victory in the election, but he insists that the crisis caused by the 2014 elections should not be repeated.

In an interview with Germany’s Spiegel news agency published on Monday, President Ghani said he has not claimed victory in the elections.
