Afghans on Sunday reacted with hope and confusion to the US President Donald Trump’s decision after he said in a series of tweets that Washington was calling off the talks with the Taliban following Thursday deadly bombing in Kabul that left at least 12 people dead including them one American soldier.

They urged the Taliban to swiftly agree on a ceasefire and resume the talks with the US side and the Afghan government.

The Afghan government on Sunday announced its position on the US President Donald Trump’s decision to call off peace negotiations with the Taliban in which the two sides “agree in principle” on an agreement which could provide the way for American forces withdrawal from the war-ravaged Afghanistan.

The statement says that the Afghan government and the people want a “dignified peace” and that the government is committed to all efforts for peace.
